Code of Conduct

Introduction

At The Public Interest, we are committed to upholding accountability to truth. Our mission is to expose corruption and reveal truth, providing our readers with accurate, evidence-based information. This Code of Conduct outlines the ethical principles and professional standards expected of all contributors to our site.

Ethical Principles

1. Accuracy and Fairness

  • Ensure that all information is accurate, well-researched, and corroborated by reliable sources.
  • Strive for fairness and impartiality in reporting, presenting all relevant sides of a story.

2. Evidence-Based Writing

  • All claims must be supported by verifiable evidence. Speculative or unsubstantiated statements are not permitted.
  • Sources must be cited clearly and transparently in each article, allowing readers to verify the information. This includes a Reference List and/or Bibliography at  the end of each article and notes for videos and podcasts.

3. Transparency

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest or potential biases that may affect reporting.
  • Be open about the sources of information and the methods used to obtain it.

4. Independence

  • Maintain editorial independence from external influences, including political, commercial, or personal interests (please see above regarding Transparency).
  • Avoid accepting gifts, favours, or compensation that could compromise integrity or impartiality. The Public Interest is currently striving to provide individual compensation to contributors at a later stage for contributors to help fund their work.
  • The Public Interest is a dedicated independent platform dedicated to truth and anti corruption. We do not accept compensation and bribes from third parties to publish or discount articles published on our platform. The truth is not for sale, and neither are we.

5. Accountability

  • Acknowledge and correct errors promptly. Corrections should be made transparently and with appropriate prominence.
  • Be accountable to readers, colleagues, and the broader public, welcoming constructive feedback and criticism.

Respectful Behaviour

1. Respect for Individuals

  • Treat all individuals with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or views.
  • Avoid language or behaviour that is defamatory, bullying, or otherwise harmful.
  • We encourage respectful debate and discussions about topics without aggression or bullying behaviour.

2. Constructive Dialogue

  • Engage in respectful and constructive dialogue with colleagues, sources, and readers.
  • Refrain from personal attacks or inflammatory language, even in the face of disagreement.

3. Professional Conduct

  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions, both online and offline.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of integrity and ethical behaviour.

Commitment to Truth and Integrity

1. Exposing Corruption

  • Focus on uncovering corruption, wrongdoing, and abuse of power, holding those in authority accountable.
  • Ensure that investigations are thorough, impartial, and based on solid evidence.

2. Avoiding Defamation and Bullying

  • The goal is to inform and educate the public, not to defame or bully individuals or organizations.
  • Ensure that critiques and exposes are fair, evidence-based, and focused on the issues rather than personal attacks.
  • The Public Interest is a platform dedicated to uncovering truth and will not accept or publish work that is unsubstantiated bullying and harassment.

3. Evidence Requirement

  • Contributors must provide clear and credible evidence to support their stories. Articles lacking sufficient evidence will not be published.
  • Maintain a rigorous fact-checking process to uphold the credibility and reliability of the site.
